Poor Baby. . .

Ok. My friend just had a baby. They named him Shackleton Lawrence. C'mon. What are people thinking when they name their offspring? Don't they know that they name they bestow upon their child can either make or break them? Possibly cause them to come home with black eyes and bloody noses? Be made fun of all throughout their school carrers? Do they think that they, personally would have wanted to have been named such a name?

I know that you all have friends (and family!) that have given their children an unfortunate name. Let's hear them! (Then maybe I won't feel so sad for my friend's kid!!)

That one's pretty hard to beat! And yes, it is sad at times what people will name their kids! Here's some from people I don't directly know: Shade, Roscoe, Cain -These are for three different kids, but really, I mean really!!!

My ultrasound technician (when I was pregnant with C)was telling us of a couple that named their child Optimus Prime, after one of the Transformers. We've also known of people who have named children after movies, like Eowyn (Lord of the Rings)and twins Liam and Ewan (Star Wars: Episode 1).

Frankly, I think that whatever people name their kids is totally up to them. There may be a reason for the name, who knows. It could also be because they don't want their kids to have the same name as everyone else's kids. Remember elementary school? Emily A., Emily B., Emily C., etc. Besides, you get used the name after a while. I do agree that some are bold and take a while to get used to. I still can't imagine calling a cute little baby, Walter, but it all turned out good in the end.

There was a baby in my last ward whose name was Edward Ronald... I thought that was the epitome of the word "nerd". I can't remember the hideous names I've heard but I know that Kelby has a nephew named Axle. I though I'd add that one because we never know if she'll pipe-in or not. :) Oh yeah.. I remember some... Hates, and Valhalla. Enough said.

We hope you all like the names we gave you! We agree, some names are just horrible! Michael and Anne Nielsen had a boy in Dec. and his middle name is Samwise! Weird, don't you think? Even his grandparents were a bit upset with the name! I've also lived with a weird name all my life! I've been called so many different names, people can never seem to see it as Jo Lynne! Oh well, you just learn to live with it!

Mom, you don't have a weird name. I've come accross at least three other Jo Lynne's out there! And we all love our names, I'm sure! As for Samwise. . .while i probably wouldn't name my child that, I'm a huge Lord Of The Rings fan, and he is my favorite character! I used to always think growing up that Ricky got the better end of the deal than Rocky did, but I kinda like that name now. And Shayne, I do remember Hades and Valhalla! Those poor children!!

Mom, you thought your name was weird? It took a long time for me to get used to mine. I mean, really, you guys didn't give us very common names especially at the time we were born! What do you think people were thinking when you said, "We named her Ronni!".

Just so you know, I like my name and I like that it's different. I always get asked if it is short for something. So, it's not always a bad thing to have a different name.

Oh, and Shayne, why is Ronald such a nerdy name?!?!

Do I even have to answer that? Your name is Ronni... not Ronald. There's a big difference. Don't be sad.

There is a boy in Malia's nursery class whose name is Ammon Ammon. Same first and last name. Poor kid.
