la leche

So, to get the ball rolling, I thought I'd go ahead and start something here. I was reading my cousin's blog the other day. She is a new mom and is experiencing all those fun things that come when having a baby, including breastfeeding. I really liked her opinion about breastfeeding in public and was curious what other people's thoughts were.

Breastfeeding in public is legal in the United States, although many people do not realize it. It is not always convenient to feed in public, but there are ways to make it more comfortable. There is a special design of clothing that makes breastfeeding more discreet so you don't have to feel like you're all over the place. There is also the "Hooter Hider" that helps solve the-blanket-falling-off-the-shoulder-while-feeding problem.

I am the type of person that doesn't like to sit around my house all day. I would rather be out doing fun things with my kids. I am also a breastfeeding mom right now and I know how uncomfortable it can be in certain situations, but I try not to let it stop me from doing what I want to do with my life. I also will admit that since I now have a hooter hider, it makes it a lot more convenient and comfortable while in public places.

Those are my thoughts on the matter. Any opinions?

I just read an article about a woman being kicked off a plane for breastfeeding her baby!!!! What a shock, I mean, did they want the baby to starve? It was last fall on a Delta flight. Since then there have been "breastfeeding sit-ins" at airports and apologies have been made. Having a baby myself I find that very disturbing. It's true that if a woman is "showing off" her breasts in any other way it would be accepted, why not as a food source?
